Express Scripts (ESI) has launched a new program that will exclude a majority of compounded prescriptions from coverage (with a few exceptions).
The goal of this program is to save your company money; however, it may have the unintended consequence of preventing access to the personalized medicine many of your employees rely on. Whether it’s someone with chronic pain, the mother of a child on the autism spectrum, or a number of other situations, these are people who only function at their best with the help of compounding.
Here’s the good news: This new program isn’t mandatory. If your company contracts directly with ESI for prescription coverage, you can opt out of ESI’s program and help protect compounding. And by helping to protect compounding, you can help protect employee productivity.
